Realistic Animal Paintings

Heather Lara is an exceptionally talented traditional artist who uses the uncommon medium of scratch board to capture the beauty of nature to the finest detail. Her masterful ability to use scratch board to create realistic pieces with insane amount of detail is remarkable, especially for an artist with no formal art training. Scratch board is done on a specially made board coated with a thin layer of fine clay. It’s then painted or airbrushed with ink and the picture is made by scratching away the ink with a sharp blade or tool. For the color pieces, several layers of a diluted ink wash are added during the scratching process to build up color and contrast.
Heather Lara was born and raised in New England where she developed an appreciation for nature at an early age.  She has lived many places since her childhood but now happily resides in Temecula, California with her husband, two small daughters and too many critters to mention them all.
