Incredible Paintings On Maps

Madrid-based Spanish artist Fernando Vicente uses maps for more than geographical reasons. For his Atlas series, the creative illustrator paints on vintage charts, changing nations and entire continents into people, animals, and skulls. The assemblage of acrylic paint portraits applied and integrated into each map, alike to the work of Ed Fair-burn  presents the countries a new sense of life.
While cartography can be glimpsed as an art in its own right, Vicente manages to transform each informative sheet into an interpretive part. The images he adds to the charts are translucent sufficient to identify the underlying contours of nations and the separation between ocean and land while simultaneously appreciating the artist's ability to attach masses of land into one unified number. His work presents an organic dream of the world, as though nations are not disconnected from one another and share a essence guardian.
