Abstract Sculptures

Sculptor Barbara Leoniak conceives intriguingly abstract perspectives of the human face. Her milky white sculptures, made of packing material dropped in resin, emerge to be one long sheet of paper or fabric that was molded round the faces of persons, but somehow came unraveled and iced in space and time. Each figurative work in the accomplished sculptor's assemblage encompasses some closed-eyed faces that are either about to kiss or emerge to be in a calm state.
Leoniak's up to date sculptures were recently presented in an public showing titled revelations as an accompaniment to Polish artist Anna Ostoya's paintings. The three-dimensional reinterpretations contemplate the paintings' figurative productions with an component of abstraction. There is an mysterious sense of opponents and balance. The sculptures also exhibit a sense of continuity as one pursues the path from one face to the next, only to replicate the cycle over and over. The artist conceives a connection between them in this way, playing with topics of interconnectivity.
