Aging Hands
If you'll observe, the names of each part are easily numbers, which you may have estimated are the genuine ages of persons she's drawn. furthermore, the Japanese washi was chosen as Anderson's canvas instead of benchmark paper for its texture, malleability and translucency of skin. "It has a warmth and tactility that makes it appear almost alive," she says."My drawings are enhanced by the extraordinary features of the washi, its diaphanous environment conceiving nuances of light and texture as it constantly rides high and drifts in the air currents."
Anderson chose to show the minutia of the hands for numerous reasons. As she explains to us, "Our hands are in unchanging communicate with the rest of the world, more damaged and creased than any place additional on the body apart from possibly our feet. They are strong yet sensitive, dexterous and yet someway vulnerable, and highly demonstrative of convoluted strong feelings. Through constant wear they accept the inscriptions of our life know-how, our passions and doubts and recollections layered over one another like a palimpsest."
"Stretching, shrivelling, creasing and breaking as we move through the stages of our inhabits, it serves as a topographical chart of everything that has ever occurred to us. I search for the prized memories that linger in the fingertips, and discover the momentarily forgotten agony of decrease in the creases of the knuckles. I am privileged to analyze so nearly the minute minutia of another’s personal body to an extent that they themselves will not ever do, and wish that I am able to tell their article honestly and sensitively."
